Entrance Requirements

ALL APPLICANTS MUST HAVE A LETTER OF ELIGIBILITY FROM THE PENNSYLVANIA STATE POLICE.

Any applicant seeking a certification of qualification shall meet the following requirements: Age: Applicant shall be 18 years of older.

Character: Applicant shall be of good character, competency and integrity.

Criminal Record: Applicant shall not have been convicted of, or have pleaded guilty to a crime of violence.

Physical/Mental Condition: Applicant shall not have any physical/mental impairment that would hinder his/her ability to handle a lethal weapon.

Course Descriptions

Basic Course Without Firearms

Privately employed agents who carry lethal weapons other than firearms as a condition of their employment shall be required to successfully complete the minimum standards of this course, which consists of 26 hours as described in Session I of the Course Outline.

Basic Course With Firearms

Privately employed agents who carry firearms as a condition to their employment shall be required to successfully complete Session I and Session II as described below in the Course Outline. This course consists of 40 hours of instruction.

Recertification

Recertification for Act 235 licensure is required every five years. This course consists of eight (8) hours of instruction.
